About Purchasing
|
The Saskatchewan government spends over $100 million each year on goods and services
ranging from food to snowplows.
If your business can provide a quality product or service at a competitive price, you may want to
consider selling to the Saskatchewan government.
Government Services Purchasing Branch coordinates the purchase of goods and some services for government
departments, boards, agencies, and commissions, as well as some Crown corporations.
Purchasing's job is to support program delivery by purchasing quality products and services that
represent the best overall value to the Government of Saskatchewan.
Purchasing also helps suppliers market their goods and services to government. The branch's
objective is to continually seek out new sources of supply and to ensure high value in all
purchases.
By developing relationships with business, the Purchasing Branch helps stimulate the economy
and provides high quality service to Saskatchewan taxpayers.

Purchasing's Tendering Methods
|
In 1994, the Saskatchewan government signed a national trade agreement, the AIT, or
Agreement on Internal Trade. This agreement eliminates interprovincial trade barriers in Canada.
Saskatchewan entered into the agreement to ensure that suppliers had open access to business
opportunities in other Canadian jurisdictions.
Government Services Purchasing Branch advertises most large value competitions on its website at
www.sasktenders.ca. Suppliers download competition documents from www.saskenders.ca at
no charge. Competition notices may also be available at MERX (www.merx.com) and the Alberta
Purchasing Connection (www.purchasingconnection.ca).
Purchasing's current competition distribution methods are:
- Goods tenders valued at $5,000 or more, and services tenders conducted by Government Services Purchasing valued at $25,000 or more, are advertised on www.sasktenders.ca.
- Goods tenders valued between $5,000 and $25,000 and services competitions less than $100,000 may be subject to a preference for Saskatchewan suppliers.
- Procurements of goods less than $5,000 and non-information technology services are generally handled directly by user departments.
